Choosing a tier
Budget, mid-range or premium tyres?
We only fit new tyres, never part-worn. What changes between tiers is grip, noise and how long the tyre tends to last, and we give you options in each tier on the call.

The middle ground between outlay and performance, from established makers. Comparing their label grades with premium options in your size shows how big the gap really is. A good fit for commuters and family cars.

Tyres from the leading makers, suited to high-mileage drivers, heavier or more powerful cars, and anyone who puts wet braking and a quiet ride first. Some cars specify a maker-approved tyre from the factory.
Reading the tyre label. New car tyres sold in the UK come with a label grading fuel efficiency (from rolling resistance), wet grip, and external rolling noise in decibels. Seasons
Summer, winter or all-season tyres?
Summer tyres are the usual choice in the UK and are fine all year for many drivers. If you drive a lot through cold winters or travel to snowy places, another tyre can make sense.

The standard tyre on most cars, built for dry and wet roads in milder weather, with sharp steering feel.

Winter tyres
Built for cold roads, slush and snow, and not a legal requirement in the UK. Michelin notes the three peak mountain snowflake symbol is awarded after a standardised snow test, while M+S alone needs no certified test.

One set all year with no seasonal swap. They give a little away to a summer tyre in warm weather and to a winter tyre in real snow.
Before you call
How do I know which tyre my car needs?
It is all written on the side of your current tyre. A clear photo of the sidewall on WhatsApp is the quickest way to get it right.
- ✓The size, for example 205/55 R16. 205 is the width in millimetres, 55 the sidewall height as a percentage of that width, R means radial and 16 is the wheel diameter in inches. It is also on a sticker in the driver's door jamb and in the handbook.
- ✓Load index and speed rating, for example 91V. Continental lists load index 91 as 615kg per tyre and V as 240 km/h (149 mph). Match or exceed what the car maker specifies; a lower speed rating on everyday summer tyres is not advised.
- ✓Extra markings such as XL, run-flat or a car maker's approval mark. Include them in the photo.
- ✓Tread depth. The legal minimum for cars is 1.6mm across a continuous band in the central three-quarters of the tread, around the whole tyre.
- ✓Tyre age. The last four digits of the sidewall code give the week and year of manufacture, so 2321 means week 23 of 2021. The NTDA notes many members suggest an inspection once a tyre is thought to be over six years old.
One tyre or two?
Should you replace tyres in pairs?
Often it is the better choice. Michelin advises that tyres on the same axle should be the same model, and that if only two new tyres are fitted they generally go on the rear axle for stability in the wet. If the partner tyre still has plenty of tread, replacing one can be fine, and we tell you honestly. On four-wheel-drive cars, follow the car maker's tyre recommendations closely.

Why mobile
Why have tyres fitted at home or work?
No booking a workshop slot, no driving on a tyre you do not trust, no waiting room. The car stays on your driveway, street or work car park, and the fitter does the same job a workshop would: tyre off the rim, new tyre on, wheel balanced and refitted. We work anywhere a van can park safely beside the car, away from moving traffic. We never work on a motorway hard shoulder, in a refuge or in an emergency area.
