Flints scattered by farm traffic on the Alcester length and site fixings around the Coventry bypass are common causes of A46 punctures, and a central hole under 6 mm is usually patched rather than replaced.
Rural and urban debris meet on this road. South of Longbridge, tractors bring stones onto the Stratford and Alcester sections; around Tollbar End and Binley, loose screws and nails drop from vans serving the business parks. The resulting punctures are often slow, a pressure warning near Thickthorn or Bishopton rather than a sudden flat. That gives time to leave at the next island and reach Kenilworth, Stratford Parkway or the University Hospital car parks while the tyre is still worth saving.
The fitter demounts the tyre and runs a hand around the inside of the casing to find how far the Alcester flint went. When the hole lies in the central three-quarter zone and the inner liner is not scored, a vulcanised patch-plug goes in to BS AU 159 before the wheel returns to the balancer. Anything nearer the shoulder, or wider than 6 mm, cannot be passed, and you are told before a single tool is used. The size and location are all we need on the call.

Puncture spotted in the car park at Central Six Retail Park, Warwickshire Shopping Park or Airport Retail Park? Keep the car where it stands and text us roughly which aisle. Tread-face punctures get repaired on site to BS AU 159 unless the tyre was run on while flat, whereas a gash towards the shoulder is beyond mending, so we fit a replacement there instead.

Skip the tyre sealant: once inside, it fouls the liner, which may end any chance of a patch at Kenilworth. Find the flint or screw and work out whether it lies near the tread edge, where repairs stop being allowed. Leave it where it is. Have the locking key out ready, and choose a bay away from the park and ride buses.
