Once you are off the carriageway, in a refuge area or on the hard shoulder with your hazards on, we head out to A14 to reach you. The wheel comes off, the tyre comes off the rim, and we look inside the casing for the hidden damage an outside plug would never catch.
If the puncture is a clean hole under 6mm in the central tread and the tyre has not been run flat, it qualifies and we patch it properly on the spot. If it does not, we carry replacement stock and fit a new tyre there and then rather than send you back out on a repair that will not last.

About the A14

The A14 begins at the M1 and M6 Catthorpe Interchange and heads east towards the port of Felixstowe. In our area it serves Kettering and Corby, linking the Midlands motorways to the East Coast ports. It is one of the country's busiest freight corridors, heavy with HGV traffic.

Can you repair my puncture at the roadside on the A14?
In most cases, yes. Once you are parked safely on the A14, we take the wheel off, remove the tyre from the rim and check the damage from inside. If it meets BS AU 159 we fit a proper patch and refit the balanced wheel before you set off.
When can a tyre not be repaired?
A repair is off if the hole is in or near the sidewall, over 6mm, outside the central three-quarters of the tread, or the tyre has been run flat. Any of those weakens the casing, so we fit a replacement rather than send you back onto the A-road unsafe.
Is a roadside repair as good as a garage one?
It is the same job. We follow BS AU 159 either way: wheel off, tyre off the rim, inspected inside, a combined plug and patch fitted, then rebalanced. Done to that standard the repair lasts the life of the tyre, whether on the A14 or a workshop floor.
How much does a repair cost against a new tyre?
A repair costs a good deal less than a replacement, which is why we always check whether yours qualifies first. There is nothing to pay up front: the enquiry is free and we confirm the price by phone before we set off. If the tyre must be replaced instead, we tell you that price before we start.
