Why can't my tyre just be repaired on the A14?
A patch only holds when the damage is small and central and the tyre kept its pressure. A split or bulging sidewall, a hole wider than 6mm, or a tyre that has been driven on flat all weaken the casing beyond a safe mend. In those cases we fit a new tyre at the roadside rather than send you back onto the A14 on one that could let go.
Can you fit a brand new tyre at the roadside on the A14?
Yes, once you are parked somewhere safe. We take the wheel off, fit the new tyre to the rim, balance it and torque it back on where your vehicle sits. There is no need for recovery to a workshop, so you are usually moving again in one visit.
Do you have my tyre size, or do you bring it out to A14?
We load common car and van sizes before we set off and can source most others at short notice. Read us the size printed on the sidewall, something like 205/55 R16, and we bring the right tyre out to A14 so nothing holds up the fitting.
