Damage from the A14 often reveals itself later, once the car is standing still. A deep junction pothole, a chunk of shredded lorry tyre struck at speed, or a high kerb on a Burton Latimer street can leave a bubble on the sidewall, a gash across the tread or steel cords showing through. None of that can be repaired, and a casing damaged like that may fail suddenly when you rejoin the dual carriageway towards Catthorpe.

Tyres that split or lose tread near Corby still need moving away from the A14 traffic, slowly and only if the car steers. Steel Road on the A6116 heads toward the streets around Priors Hall Park, and Rockingham Road on the A43 gives access to residential roads in NN18.
