Walk round the car at the Brackmills unit or outside a Small Heath terrace and see a bulge or a split sidewall: we say straight whether it is driveable, then replace it where it sits.
Parked-car tyre damage along the A45 comes from a few familiar sources. Coventry Road's high kerbs at Bordesley Circus and the bus stops in Sheldon slice sidewalls when cars pull in tight; potholes on estate roads around Brackmills and Delapre pinch tyres and raise bulges days later; and a clumsy manoeuvre in the Rushden Lakes car park can tear a shoulder. Often it is found on a walk back to the car, not while driving, and the question is simply whether it is safe.
A photograph showing the injury plus the size code lets us give a first verdict on the phone. Exposed cords, a bubble or a cut that opens when pressed rule out driving, even the short hop to Riverside. Surface scuffs that only mark the rubber are sometimes fine, and we tell you so. If replacement is needed, the fitter brings the right tyre to Delapre, Small Heath or wherever the car is, with the price agreed first.

A tyre split on the Birmingham end of the A45 needs a like-for-like replacement. Pull off into a Hay Mills or South Yardley side street, or near Tyseley station, then photograph the size printed on the matching tyre. Mention if the rim took a knock as well, because a buckled alloy has to be spotted before any fresh rubber is mounted on it.
Parked at Delapre or Sixfields with a scarred tyre? Crouch down and look carefully around the wall. Air pushing out into a lump, fabric visible inside a cut or a crack by the bead each mean the tyre is finished. So does a bald patch from a locked wheel, or tread beneath the legal limit of 1.6 mm. Do not test it on the Nene Valley Way at 70. Sheldon's bus-stop kerbs and pothole-marked estate roads around Brackmills can start this damage.
