Locking wheel nut removed at the roadside
on the M5.

A locking wheel nut you cannot shift means the wheel will not come off, and on a road like the M5 that leaves you stopped where you least want to be. Whether the key is missing or the nut has seized, we reach you, remove it cleanly without marking the wheel, and change the tyre so you are back on the motorway rather than waiting on a tow.

The specialist kit is what makes the removal clean. The extraction socket grips the nut itself, not the wheel, and works it out under control, so the alloy face and the stud come through untouched. A standard nut then goes on and the wheel is changed on the spot.

Safety comes first on the M5, so pull well clear of moving traffic, switch your hazards on and stand back from the car before you ring. We confirm where you are on the M5, price the job before we head out, and take nothing up front, so you settle up only once the nut is out. Where traffic allows we aim to be with you inside the hour.

  • Missing-key or seized nuts: both removed cleanly at the roadside
  • Wheel protected: alloy face and stud left in the same condition
  • Rejoin the motorway sooner: nut and tyre sorted in one visit
  • Usually within the hour: nothing up front, pay once it is done

About the M5

The road we cover.

The M5 starts at the M6 near West Bromwich and heads south-west towards Bristol and the West Country. In our area it passes Oldbury at junction 2, Halesowen and Quinton at junction 3 and Bromsgrove at junctions 4 and 5, carrying heavy traffic round the west of the Black Country. It is a major freight and holiday route, especially busy southbound at weekends and through the summer.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring the extraction tools to you and get the wheel off, then sort the tyre in the same visit.

Stay safe first

Broken down on the M5?

A seized locking nut won't deflate your tyre, so there's no need to take a risk. Get to a safe spot, a services, junction or emergency area, and we'll come to remove it.

Get off the carriageway

Reach an emergency area, the hard shoulder or the next exit if you safely can, and put your hazards on.

Stand behind the barrier

Leave the vehicle on the passenger side and wait well back. In a live lane, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000.

M5 FAQs

Locking Wheel Nut Removal on the M5, answered.

How do you remove a locking nut on the M5 without the key or damaging the wheel?
We use extraction sockets that grip the nut itself and wind it out under control, whether the key is missing or the nut has seized. Because the tool works on the nut and not the wheel, the alloy and the stud are left intact once it is off, and we then change the tyre.
Is the whole job done in one roadside visit?
Yes. The fitter removes the locking nut, frees the wheel and changes or refits the tyre in the same stop on the M5. There is no tow to a garage and no second appointment, so you are back on the motorway as quickly as the job allows.
What should I do to stay safe while I wait on the M5?
Pull as far from moving traffic as you can, ideally into an emergency area or off at a junction, and never change a wheel in a live lane. Switch your hazards on, get everyone out on the side away from traffic, and wait behind a barrier where there is one.
What do you need to know when I call?
Your location on the M5 with a direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker, the make and model of the car, and whether the key is lost or the nut has seized or rounded. That lets us bring the right extraction kit and quote you before we set off.
How quickly can you get to me on the motorway?
Where the motorway is flowing freely we aim to be with you within about 60 minutes, with same-day and 24-hour cover. The nut removal and wheel change are done together on arrival, so the M5 does not hold you up any longer than it has to.
