Locking Wheel Nut Removal
on the M6.

Lost the locking key with a flat on the M6? We extract seized or keyless nuts at the roadside so your wheel comes off.

Locking wheel nut removed at the roadside
on the M6.

Lost the key for your locking nuts and now stranded beside the M6 with a wheel you cannot get off? A keyless nut will not budge with an ordinary socket, so the wheel stays on and the car stays put. We drive out to you, extract the nut without harming the alloy and change the tyre so you rejoin the motorway in the same visit.

Locking nuts are there to slow down thieves, not to lock out the owner. When the key is missing, snapped or was never passed on with the car, our master extraction sets grip the nut directly and wind it out, so a keyless nut on the M6 does not have to mean a long wait for recovery.

Get somewhere safe first, well clear of moving traffic, then call. We confirm exactly where you are on the M6, give you a price before we set off, and ask for nothing up front, so you pay only once the nut is out and the tyre is sorted. Where the traffic allows, we aim to be with you inside the hour.

  • Lost or snapped keys: a master set lifts the nut when yours has gone
  • Alloy and studs protected: the tool grips the nut, not the wheel
  • Back on the motorway fast: nut out and tyre changed in one visit
  • Nothing up front: pay once the nut is out and the tyre is done

About the M6

The road we cover.

The M6 is the backbone of the Midlands motorway network, and our coverage runs from the Catthorpe Interchange round through Birmingham and the Black Country. It meets the M1 and A14 at Catthorpe, serves Coventry at junctions 2 to 3, runs over the elevated section and Spaghetti Junction through Birmingham at 4 to 8, and passes Walsall at 9 to 10 and Wolverhampton at 10a. It is one of the busiest motorways in the country, carrying constant freight and commuter traffic through the heart of the Midlands.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring the extraction tools to you and get the wheel off, then sort the tyre in the same visit.

Stay safe first

Broken down on the M6?

A seized locking nut won't deflate your tyre, so there's no need to take a risk. Get to a safe spot, a services, junction or emergency area, and we'll come to remove it.

Get off the carriageway

Reach an emergency area, the hard shoulder or the next exit if you safely can, and put your hazards on.

Stand behind the barrier

Leave the vehicle on the passenger side and wait well back. In a live lane, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000.

M6 FAQs

Locking Wheel Nut Removal on the M6, answered.

I have lost the key for my locking wheel nuts. Can you still get the wheel off on the M6?
Yes. We do not need your key. Our master sets and dedicated extraction tools grip and back the nut out even when it is keyless, and we then change or repair the tyre before you leave. Nothing on the wheel is damaged in the process.
My key snapped while I was trying to loosen the nut. Does that change anything?
No. A snapped or worn key is treated the same as a lost one, since there is no longer a way to open the nut normally. We use an extraction socket that grips the nut itself, wind it out, and get you back on the motorway in the same visit.
Where should I wait for you if I am stuck on the M6?
Somewhere well clear of moving traffic. Use an emergency area or come off at a junction if you can, and never attempt a change in a live lane. Put your hazards on, stand back from the vehicle, then ring us with your direction of travel and the nearest marker or junction.
Will you leave me a usable nut after removing the keyless one?
Yes. Once the locking nut is out we can fit a standard replacement in its place, so the wheel is secured with something you can undo yourself later. If you would prefer to keep a locking set, we can talk that through at the roadside.
How long until you reach me and have the tyre changed?
Where the motorway is running freely we usually reach you within about 60 minutes, with same-day and 24-hour cover. Once we arrive, the nut removal and the wheel change happen together, so you are not stopped by the M6 any longer than needed.
