How do I know if my tyre needs replacing rather than repairing?
If the damage is on the sidewall, if the hole is larger than about 6mm, or if the tyre has been run flat or shredded, it is beyond a safe repair. The fitter confirms this at the roadside on the M5, and where a repair really would be safe on a small tread puncture, we will tell you honestly instead.
