A flat on the M1 does not automatically mean a new tyre. Get yourself off the carriageway to somewhere safe, leave the tyre as it is and call us. A fitter comes out to where you have stopped, looks the tyre over and does the quickest safe fix, a repair if the damage allows it or a fresh tyre if it does not.
Nobody can tell you over the phone whether it can be mended, which is why we diagnose it on arrival. We check the tread, the sidewall and the rim right there beside the M1, tell you plainly what we have found and carry the tools to plug a simple puncture on the spot. If the damage is too deep or too near the edge to mend safely, we have replacement tyres on the van and fit one there and then.

About the M1

The M1 runs from Staples Corner in north London up to Leeds, and our coverage follows its busy southern stretch to the M6 at Catthorpe. It serves Watford and Hemel Hempstead at junctions 5 to 8, Luton at 10 and 11, Milton Keynes at 13 and 14 and Northampton at 15 and 16, meeting the M25 at junction 6a and the A14 and M6 at the Catthorpe Interchange. It is a major north-south freight and commuter artery, busy day and night with fast-moving heavy traffic.

What should I do the moment I get a flat on the M1?
Ease off the power, hold the wheel straight and come off the carriageway at the first safe place, an emergency area, a hard shoulder if there is one, or the next junction. Put your hazards on, stop, and leave the tyre as it is. Then call us and we come to you.
Where is the safest place to wait?
Well clear of moving traffic. On a motorway that means an emergency area, a hard shoulder if there is one, or off at the nearest junction, never a live lane. Keep your hazards on and, if it is safe, stand behind a barrier away from the car rather than beside it.
Why can I not just drive on to the next services?
Because driving on a flat destroys the tyre and can buckle the wheel, and on a fast motorway it puts you at real risk. A puncture that could have been repaired becomes a replacement. Once you are safely off the road, stay put and let us bring the fix to you.
Will you repair it or replace it once you arrive?
It depends on what we find. A clean puncture in the tread often takes a lasting repair, while a split sidewall, a bad tear or a run-flat that has been driven on needs a new tyre. We diagnose it at the roadside and carry both the tools and replacement stock to finish in one visit.
How do I help you find me, and how do I pay?
Tell us your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post on M1 so we come straight to you. There is nothing to pay up front; a repair is the cheaper outcome and a replacement depends on your tyre size and brand.
