Burst tyre replaced fast
on the M1.

When a tyre bursts on the M1 the tyre itself is finished. At motorway speed the sidewall flexes violently, the internal casing tears and the tread can come apart, and none of that can be patched safely. A genuine blowout needs a replacement, not a repair, so we come to M1 with a new tyre and fit it where you have stopped.

The seconds after a burst are what matter most. Lift off the accelerator smoothly, keep both hands on the wheel and let the car slow of its own accord. Heavy braking or a sharp swerve can send it out of line, so hold your course, ease onto the hard shoulder or an emergency refuge area, and put your hazards on.

When you are off the live carriageway and behind the barrier, call us with your location and direction on M1 and the tyre size if you can read it. We run 24-hour callouts every day, bring the tyre and the tools to you, and ask for no payment up front: you pay once the new tyre is fitted. No tow, no garage.

  • A burst tyre on the M1 normally needs replacing, not repairing, and we arrive ready to fit
  • New tyre fitted, balanced and torqued at the roadside, with no recovery truck and no tow
  • Safety first after a blowout: ease off, hold the wheel, reach the hard shoulder, never a live lane
  • 24-hour cover on the motorway every day, with nothing to pay up front

About the M1

The road we cover.

The M1 runs from Staples Corner in north London up to Leeds, and our coverage follows its busy southern stretch to the M6 at Catthorpe. It serves Watford and Hemel Hempstead at junctions 5 to 8, Luton at 10 and 11, Milton Keynes at 13 and 14 and Northampton at 15 and 16, meeting the M25 at junction 6a and the A14 and M6 at the Catthorpe Interchange. It is a major north-south freight and commuter artery, busy day and night with fast-moving heavy traffic.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring a replacement to you and check the wheel, rather than have you risk the rim on a shredded tyre.

Stay safe first

Broken down on the M1?

A blowout can pull the car off line. Grip the wheel firmly, ease off the throttle, avoid braking hard, and steer gently onto the hard shoulder or an emergency area.

Get off the carriageway

Reach an emergency area, the hard shoulder or the next exit if you safely can, and put your hazards on.

Stand behind the barrier

Leave the vehicle on the passenger side and wait well back. In a live lane, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000.

Call us

Once you are safe, call and we will come to you on the M1 to burst tyre replaced fast.

M1 FAQs

Burst Tyre Replacement on the M1, answered.

Does a burst tyre on the M1 mean my car has to be towed?
In most cases, no. We fit the replacement at the roadside, so once you are safely off the live carriageway your car stays where it is and drives away on the new tyre. We only arrange recovery if you are stranded somewhere with no safe hard shoulder or refuge to work in, and even then only to reach a safer point.
The tyre went with a bang at motorway speed. Could I have done anything differently?
A blowout usually gives no warning, so it is rarely about what you did beforehand. What counts is the response: easing off the accelerator, keeping a firm grip on the wheel and letting the car slow rather than braking hard or swerving. Reaching the hard shoulder or an emergency area under control is exactly the right thing to do.
Can a burst tyre be patched to get me home?
No. A patch is for a small puncture in the tread, not for a tyre whose sidewall and casing have been torn open in a blowout. Driving on it, even a short way, would not be safe. When we reach you on M1 we fit a proper replacement so the car is sound for the journey on.
How do I help you find me on M1?
Give us your direction of travel and the nearest junction number or marker post, along with anything you can see nearby. That lets us pinpoint you and send the closest van quickly. If you can safely read the tyre size off the sidewall, tell us that too, so we arrive with the right replacement.
What are your hours and how much is the callout?
We run 24-hour callouts every day, so there is always cover on the motorway. The callout is included in the job rather than charged separately. There is no charge to book and nothing up front: you pay once the new tyre is fitted, and we confirm the full price for the tyre and fitting before we set off.
