The road we cover.
The M1 runs from Staples Corner in north London up to Leeds, and our coverage follows its busy southern stretch to the M6 at Catthorpe. It serves Watford and Hemel Hempstead at junctions 5 to 8, Luton at 10 and 11, Milton Keynes at 13 and 14 and Northampton at 15 and 16, meeting the M25 at junction 6a and the A14 and M6 at the Catthorpe Interchange. How do you fit a tyre safely in the dark on M1?
Every van is set up for night work with floodlights and high-vis gear. The fitter lights the working area and only begins once you are off the live carriageway, behind a barrier or in an emergency area. The wheel is torqued and pressures checked before you rejoin the motorway.
Can you find me on a long stretch of M1?
Yes. Give us your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post on M1 and we will locate you quickly, day or night. The clearer the location, the faster the fitter reaches you.
I am stuck in a live lane on the motorway, what should I do?
Do not attempt to change the tyre yourself in a live lane. Stay in the vehicle if it is not safe to get out, keep your seatbelt on and hazards flashing, and call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Once you are in a safe spot off the carriageway, call us for the tyre.
Is it a new tyre, and how much is the night supplement?
It is a proper new tyre, mounted and balanced on the spot, not a temporary repair. Out-of-hours callouts add only a small supplement, and we state the full price before we leave. There is nothing to pay up front, so you settle once the tyre is fitted.
How soon can you get to me overnight?
Usually within the hour where traffic and distance allow, whatever the time. We carry tyres in the van, so once we reach your spot on M1 the change is quick and you are back on your way without a long wait.
