Flat tyre help at the roadside
on the A1(M).

A flat on the A1(M) does not always mean a new tyre. Get yourself off the carriageway to somewhere safe, leave the tyre alone, and call us. A fitter comes out to wherever you have stopped, looks the tyre over and does the quickest safe fix, whether that is a repair or a fresh tyre.

The honest answer to whether it can be mended is that nobody knows until someone has looked at it. That is why we diagnose on arrival. We check the tread, the sidewall and the rim right there at the side of the A1(M), tell you plainly what we have found, and carry the tools to repair a simple puncture on the spot. If the damage is too deep or too close to the edge to mend safely, we have replacement tyres on the van and fit one there and then, so it is sorted in a single visit.

Please do not try to limp on to the next services. Rolling on a flat ruins the tyre and can bend the wheel, and on a fast motorway it is not worth the risk. We come to you, so stay put once you are safe. There is nothing to pay up front: an enquiry takes about two minutes, we call you back to confirm the price before we set off, and where the road lets us we are usually with you inside about an hour.

  • Diagnosed on arrival: we find out what is actually wrong before anything else
  • Repaired if safe, replaced if not: whichever fix is right, done in one visit
  • We come to you on the A1(M): no recovery truck, no towing to a garage
  • Nothing up front, pay when it is done: the price depends on your tyre size and brand

About the A1(M)

The road we cover.

The A1(M) carries the Great North Road through Hertfordshire, from South Mimms to Baldock. It meets the M25 at South Mimms, serves Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield at junctions 3 to 4, Stevenage at 7 to 8 and Hitchin and Letchworth at 8 to 9. It is a busy commuter motorway feeding traffic between Hertfordshire and London.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we come to you and sort the flat, a repair where it's safe, a replacement where it isn't, and get you moving again.

A1(M) FAQs

Flat Tyre Help on the A1(M), answered.

What should I do the moment I get a flat on the A1(M)?
Ease off the power, hold the wheel straight and come off the carriageway at the first safe place, an emergency area, a hard shoulder if there is one, or the next junction. Put your hazards on, stop, and leave the tyre as it is. Then call us and we come to you.
Where is the safest place to wait?
Well clear of moving traffic. On a motorway that means an emergency area, a hard shoulder if there is one, or off at the nearest junction, never a live lane. Keep your hazards on and, if it is safe, stand behind a barrier away from the car rather than beside it.
Why can I not just drive on to the next services?
Because driving on a flat destroys the tyre and can buckle the wheel, and on a fast motorway it puts you at real risk. A puncture that could have been repaired becomes a replacement. Once you are safely off the road, stay put and let us bring the fix to you.
Will you repair it or replace it once you arrive?
It depends on what we find. A clean puncture in the tread often takes a lasting repair, while a split sidewall, a bad tear or a run-flat that has been driven on needs a new tyre. We diagnose it at the roadside and carry both the tools and replacement stock to finish in one visit.
How do I help you find me, and how do I pay?
Tell us your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post on A1(M) so we come straight to you. There is nothing to pay up front; a repair is the cheaper outcome and a replacement depends on your tyre size and brand. We call you back to confirm the price before we set off, and you pay only once it is sorted.
