Town-centre kerbs in Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth catch plenty of sidewalls, and debris thrown up on the A1(M) is another hazard. The damage is usually found while parked: a bubble on the side of the tyre, a split at the shoulder, a cut with steel or fabric cord showing through. Kerb strikes and split sidewalls often come to light in Hitchin once the car is parked.
