What actually happens during a roadside repair on the A1(M)?
Once you are safe, we jack the car, take the wheel off and remove the tyre from the rim. We inspect the inside of the casing, fit a combined plug and patch to BS AU 159, rebalance the wheel and refit it. Then you are good to drive on from the A1(M).
Why do you take the whole tyre off just for a puncture?
Because a repair to BS AU 159 has to be done from the inside. Taking the tyre off the rim is the only way to inspect the casing for hidden damage and bond a patch properly. An outside plug fitted on the A1(M) without that is not a repair we would trust.
Can you repair a puncture in the dark or bad weather on the A1(M)?
Yes. Our fitters work through the night and in poor weather, with lighting to do the job safely at the roadside on the A1(M). Getting you off a motorway and back on your way matters most when conditions are bad, so we run 24-hour callouts every day.
Does a repaired tyre need checking again later?
