Burst Tyre Replacement · A1(M)

Burst tyre replaced fast
on the A1(M).

A blowout on the A1(M) is one of the most frightening things that can happen behind the wheel. At motorway speed there is a loud bang, the steering suddenly drags to one side and the tyre is destroyed in seconds. When a tyre bursts like this the casing and sidewall are torn apart, so it almost never comes back from a repair. What you need is a new tyre fitted at the roadside, and that is exactly what we bring to you.

If you feel a tyre go while you are moving on the A1(M), ease gently off the accelerator and hold the wheel firmly with both hands. Do not stamp on the brakes and do not fight a hard swerve. Let the car slow on its own, then guide it onto the hard shoulder or the nearest emergency refuge area, put your hazards on and get well away from the traffic before you ring us.

Once you are safely off the live carriageway, give us your location on A1(M), the direction you were heading and your tyre size, and a van heads your way. We carry the stock and the equipment to swap a burst tyre where you are stopped, with 24-hour callouts every day of the year. No garage, no recovery truck, no long wait on the verge.

  • Roadside blowout replacement on the A1(M), a fresh tyre fitted where you stopped with no tow needed
  • Guidance on staying safe after a high-speed burst: ease off, hold the wheel, reach the hard shoulder or emergency area
  • 24-hour callouts across the motorway, seven days a week, because a blowout will not wait
  • We come to you with the right tyre and tools, and there is nothing to pay up front: you pay once the new tyre is fitted

About the A1(M)

The road we cover.

The A1(M) carries the Great North Road through Hertfordshire, from South Mimms to Baldock. It meets the M25 at South Mimms, serves Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield at junctions 3 to 4, Stevenage at 7 to 8 and Hitchin and Letchworth at 8 to 9. It is a busy commuter motorway feeding traffic between Hertfordshire and London.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring a replacement to you and check the wheel, rather than have you risk the rim on a shredded tyre.

A1(M) FAQs

Burst Tyre Replacement on the A1(M), answered.

Does a burst tyre on the A1(M) mean my car has to be towed?
In most cases, no. We fit the replacement at the roadside, so once you are safely off the live carriageway your car stays where it is and drives away on the new tyre. We only arrange recovery if you are stranded somewhere with no safe hard shoulder or refuge to work in, and even then only to reach a safer point.
The tyre went with a bang at motorway speed. Could I have done anything differently?
A blowout usually gives no warning, so it is rarely about what you did beforehand. What counts is the response: easing off the accelerator, keeping a firm grip on the wheel and letting the car slow rather than braking hard or swerving. Reaching the hard shoulder or an emergency area under control is exactly the right thing to do.
Can a burst tyre be patched to get me home?
No. A patch is for a small puncture in the tread, not for a tyre whose sidewall and casing have been torn open in a blowout. Driving on it, even a short way, would not be safe. When we reach you on A1(M) we fit a proper replacement so the car is sound for the journey on.
How do I help you find me on A1(M)?
Give us your direction of travel and the nearest junction number or marker post, along with anything you can see nearby. That lets us pinpoint you and send the closest van quickly. If you can safely read the tyre size off the sidewall, tell us that too, so we arrive with the right replacement.
What are your hours and how much is the callout?
We run 24-hour callouts every day, so there is always cover on the motorway. The callout is included in the job rather than charged separately. There is no charge to book and nothing up front: you pay once the new tyre is fitted, and we confirm the full price for the tyre and fitting before we set off.
