Locking wheel nut removed at the roadside
on the A1(M).

A lost key or a seized locking nut can leave you stranded beside the A1(M) with a wheel you simply cannot get off. We drive out to you, extract the awkward nut without harming the alloy, and change the tyre so you rejoin the motorway in the same visit.

Locking wheel nuts are meant to slow down thieves, not lock out the owner. When the key is missing, snapped, or the nut has rounded off and rusted tight, an ordinary socket will not budge it. Our vans carry master extraction sets built for that exact job, so a jammed nut on the A1(M) never has to turn into a long wait for recovery.

Move somewhere safe first, then call. We confirm where you are on the A1(M), give you a price before we set off, and take nothing up front, so you pay only once the nut is out and the tyre is sorted. Where the traffic allows, we aim to be with you inside the hour.

  • Lost or snapped keys: a full master set lifts the nut when yours has gone
  • Seized or rounded nuts: extraction sockets grip where a normal socket slips
  • Alloy and studs protected: the wheel and its finish are left intact
  • Tyre sorted in one visit: a standard nut goes on and the wheel is changed on the spot

About the A1(M)

The road we cover.

The A1(M) carries the Great North Road through Hertfordshire, from South Mimms to Baldock. It meets the M25 at South Mimms, serves Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield at junctions 3 to 4, Stevenage at 7 to 8 and Hitchin and Letchworth at 8 to 9. It is a busy commuter motorway feeding traffic between Hertfordshire and London.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring the extraction tools to you and get the wheel off, then sort the tyre in the same visit.

Stay safe first

Broken down on the A1(M)?

A seized locking nut won't deflate your tyre, so there's no need to take a risk. Get to a safe spot, a services, junction or emergency area, and we'll come to remove it.

Get off the carriageway

Reach an emergency area, the hard shoulder or the next exit if you safely can, and put your hazards on.

A1(M) FAQs

Locking Wheel Nut Removal on the A1(M), answered.

How do you remove a locking nut on the A1(M) without the key or damaging the wheel?
We use extraction sockets that grip the nut itself and wind it out under control, whether the key is missing or the nut has seized. Because the tool works on the nut and not the wheel, the alloy and the stud are left intact once it is off, and we then change the tyre.
Is the whole job done in one roadside visit?
Yes. The fitter removes the locking nut, frees the wheel and changes or refits the tyre in the same stop on the A1(M). There is no tow to a garage and no second appointment, so you are back on the motorway as quickly as the job allows.
What should I do to stay safe while I wait on the A1(M)?
Pull as far from moving traffic as you can, ideally into an emergency area or off at a junction, and never change a wheel in a live lane. Switch your hazards on, get everyone out on the side away from traffic, and wait behind a barrier where there is one.
What do you need to know when I call?
Your location on the A1(M) with a direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker, the make and model of the car, and whether the key is lost or the nut has seized or rounded. That lets us bring the right extraction kit and quote you before we set off.
How quickly can you get to me on the motorway?
Where the motorway is flowing freely we aim to be with you within about 60 minutes, with same-day and 24-hour cover. The nut removal and wheel change are done together on arrival, so the A1(M) does not hold you up any longer than it has to.
