When a tyre blows at speed between Coventry and Leicester, the priority is a controlled stop off the M69. We replace the tyre once the car is in Hinckley, Burbage or Fosse Park.
A blowout on the M69 usually arrives as a bang and a pull towards one side, often on the long stretch past Hinckley where speeds stay high. Hold the wheel firmly, keep straight and ease off the accelerator, braking only gently. If it still steers, leave at the next exit, J1 for the A5 or J2 for the B4669. If it will not, get everyone out behind the barrier and dial 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000.
When the car is finally somewhere safe, whether it was driven or recovered, read us the size off the surviving tyre on the same axle. A blowout towards the Coventry end means taking the first safe exit, never stopping on the verge. From there the A4600 heads into the city along Walsgrave Road and Sky Blue Way, and side streets in Bell Green or Potters Green let a car sit clear of traffic. On the call, give us the road ref, say A4600, plus the closest named landmark so the van finds you.
In the seconds after an M69 blowout, flick the hazards on. Once stationary, passengers climb out on the left, away from the lorries, and wait behind the barrier while 999 or National Highways is rung. Nobody wanders along the verge towards Hinckley for help. Crawling on bare metal to J1 can split an alloy and damage the hub bearing. Once recovery drops the car at Burbage or Fosse Park, we inspect the rim, the burst tyre's axle twin and the remaining pair.
