Can you really repair a puncture on M69 in the middle of the night?
Yes. The repair service runs day and night, so a fitter can come out to the M69 at 3am just as readily as at midday. Provided you have stopped somewhere safe and the damage is repairable, we take the wheel off, patch it to BS AU 159 and rebalance it there and then, subject to a fitter being free.
Will I need a new tyre, or can the puncture be patched?
It depends where the damage is. A clean object through the central tread is usually repairable within BS AU 159, and that is always our first choice because it costs you far less than a replacement. A cut sidewall, a torn tread or a tyre that has been driven on flat cannot be mended safely, and in that case we tell you straight and fit a new tyre instead.
What should I do while I wait on M69?
Get yourself and any passengers clear of moving traffic first. Pull into an emergency area or the hard shoulder, or leave at the nearest junction, and never sit in a live lane. On a motorway stand behind the barrier if you can. If you are stranded where you cannot move to safety, ring 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000, then call us once you are out of harm's way.
How much does an out-of-hours repair cost?
