Puncture Repair · M45

Puncture repaired safely off the carriageway
on the M45.

Picked up a puncture on the M45 and not sure whether it can be saved? Most can. A nail or screw caught in the tread is usually a repair, not a replacement, and we fix it to BS AU 159 at the roadside so you are not paying for a new tyre you do not need.

First, get somewhere safe on this motorway: an emergency refuge, the hard shoulder or off at the next exit, hazards on and well clear of the traffic. Then call and tell us your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post on the M45 so we can find you quickly.

When we arrive we take the wheel off, remove the tyre and inspect it inside against the standard: central three-quarters of the tread, under 6mm, not run flat. Meet all three and we patch it there and then. Fall outside them and we fit a replacement we carry, so you leave on a tyre we can stand behind.

  • Inspected inside and patched to BS AU 159, the only repair that truly lasts
  • We only mend what is safe, and say so plainly when a tyre needs replacing
  • A repair costs a fraction of a new tyre, wheel rebalanced before you set off
  • Roadside callout on the M45, usually within the hour where we can reach you

About the M45

The road we cover.

The M45 is a short, fast spur off the M1 to the A45 at Dunchurch near Rugby. It leaves the M1 at junction 17 and runs about eight miles to the A45 south-east of Coventry. It is a quiet but quick link road serving Rugby and the southern approaches to Coventry.

Wherever you've pulled over along it, we come to you and repair the puncture at the roadside rather than have you limp on and ruin the tyre.

Broken down on the M45?

A slow puncture usually gives you a little time. Reduce speed, put your hazards on and come off at the next exit or into an emergency area rather than stopping in a live lane.

Get off the carriageway

Reach an emergency area, the hard shoulder or the next exit if you safely can, and put your hazards on.

Stand behind the barrier

Leave the vehicle on the passenger side and wait well back. In a live lane, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000.

M45 FAQs

Puncture Repair on the M45, answered.

What actually happens during a roadside repair on the M45?
Once you are safe, we jack the car, take the wheel off and remove the tyre from the rim. We inspect the inside of the casing, fit a combined plug and patch to BS AU 159, rebalance the wheel and refit it. Then you are good to drive on from the M45.
Why do you take the whole tyre off just for a puncture?
Because a repair to BS AU 159 has to be done from the inside. Taking the tyre off the rim is the only way to inspect the casing for hidden damage and bond a patch properly. An outside plug fitted on the M45 without that is not a repair we would trust.
Can you repair a puncture in the dark or bad weather on the M45?
Yes. Our fitters work through the night and in poor weather, with lighting to do the job safely at the roadside on the M45. Getting you off a motorway and back on your way matters most when conditions are bad, so we run 24-hour callouts every day.
Does a repaired tyre need checking again later?
A repair to BS AU 159 lasts the working life of the tyre, so there is no special upkeep. Just keep an eye on your pressures as normal after we send you off from the M45, and have any future puncture inspected properly rather than plugged from outside.
What if my puncture cannot be repaired at the roadside?
Then we tell you straight and fit a replacement from the van where we have your size, so you are not left stranded on the M45. You only pay for what is needed, with nothing to settle up front, and we confirm the price with you before we set off whether we repair or replace.
