Our Brent Cross base sits on the North Circular: no hard shoulder and few safe places to stop. If a tyre goes and the car still steers, take the next exit into a retail park or side street: Brent Cross Shopping Centre, the Tesco at Brent Park, Ravenside at Edmonton. If it will not, pull left, hazards on, 999, then us.
The North Circular loops from the Chiswick roundabout through Hanger Lane, Neasden and Staples Corner to Brent Cross, past Henlys Corner and Bounds Green to Edmonton, Walthamstow and Redbridge, ending at Barking and Beckton. TfL runs it as a red route with no hard shoulder, and long underpasses where a stationary car is in real danger. What it does have is an exit every mile into retail parks and residential streets. Our unit on Adrian Avenue is beside the Brent Cross flyover.
If you can still control the car safely, leave at the next junction or pull into a services. If not, use the hard shoulder or an emergency area rather than a running lane, but never as a place to wait for a fitter: nobody can change a wheel there.
Put your hazards on. If it is safe, get everyone out on the passenger side and behind the barrier; if not, stay in with seatbelts on. Call 999 if you are in a live lane or in danger. Otherwise call the road operator (details below) and get moved to a place of safety. On a smart motorway use an emergency area and the orange SOS phone, and do not rejoin until the signals are set.

The A406 runs past our door at Brent Cross, and every exit from Hanger Lane to Beckton leads somewhere we can work: IKEA at Brent Park, Ravenside.
North Circular punctures are mostly kerb and pothole work. The tight exits at Henlys Corner and Bounds Green, the raised kerbs at Stonebridge Park and the patched surface round Angel Road bite tyres daily. We repair wherever you have found a legal stop, a Tesco or IKEA bay at Brent Park or a Finchley side road.
How a mobile puncture repair is done →A burst in the Neasden underpass or on the Brent Cross flyover puts you in one of the worst spots in London. With control still there, take the very next exit, even the wrong way: Brent Cross and Staples Corner lead into car parks, as does Ravenside eastwards. Without it, hazards on, belt on, 999. Parked, we fit the tyre.
What to do after a burst tyre →Without the locking wheel nut key you cannot swap to a spare on the North Circular anyway, so get off the road first: Brent Cross Shopping Centre, the Tesco at Brent Park, an Ealing street near Hanger Lane, or a superstore car park from Edmonton east, where allowed. We remove the nut without marking the alloy and fit standard nuts.
How locking wheel nuts are removed →The North Circular is quieter at night but no safer for a stationary car: traffic moves at speed, the underpasses are dark and the red route still applies. Overnight a big car park is the answer: Tesco Extra Brent Park, the Tesco at Angel Road or Brent Cross. Get to one, lock the doors and call.

Westbound the rear goes soft in the Neasden underpass, the worst place to stop. If it still handles, go slowly, hazards on, to the Brent Park exit and the Tesco Extra car park.
A pothole before the Bounds Green underpass thumps the front wheel and the tyre starts losing pressure. Come off for the A109 and park in Arnos Grove station car park. A pinched sidewall cannot be patched.
The pressure light comes on eastbound near the Great Cambridge junction and the spare is useless because the locking key is missing. Carry on to Edmonton and park at Ravenside. We remove the nut.
