A tyre bursting in the Bounds Green or Edmonton underpass is frightening, and the A406 has no hard shoulder. Hold the wheel steady, reach the next exit if the car feels controllable, and a fresh tyre goes on there.
North Circular traffic moves at speed through its underpasses and over the Brent Cross flyover, and those are the worst places for a blowout because there is no verge or hard shoulder. If a tyre goes, hold the wheel hard, feather off the throttle, resist stamping on the brake and, steering permitting, indicate for the next exit: Bounds Green for Arnos Grove, Angel Road for Ravenside, or Brent Cross itself. Roll on slowly to get clear only if the car still obeys the wheel.
Should the car refuse to go any further, switch on the hazards, get everyone out through the nearside doors when it is safe, stand well away and call 999, then TfL.
