Flat tyre waiting when you land at Stansted, or found in the Debden station car park after work? Do not drive it onto the M11. A fitter comes out and works out beside the car whether it can be saved.
A flat can be waiting on return from holiday at the Stansted long-stay, or for a commuter walking back to the car at Loughton or Debden station. Slow leaks from nails picked up on Essex lanes can empty a tyre over a few days. Pumping it up and heading for the M11 is a gamble: there are no services until J8, and a tyre that went fully flat may already have sidewall damage.
Stay put and call with the location, including zone and row at the airport, the sidewall markings and any locking wheel nuts. The tyre is then taken off and inspected. A small, clean hole in the central tread is repaired to BS AU 159; anything else calls for a new tyre, carried in the van where available. You hear both routes, with prices, during the call.

Flat tyre as you reach the southern end of the motorway? If it still steers safely, carry on at low speed only as far as the Green Man Roundabout, where the A114 heads into Leytonstone, then turn off into a residential road or the Leyton Mills Retail Park car park. Snaresbrook station is another clear reference. Hazards on, step out away from traffic, and ring.
A flat on a Woodford side road deserves a proper look before anyone thinks of a garage. Go round the other three tyres, then inspect the empty one for a protruding screw, a perished valve or kerb rash on the wall. Driving to a workshop off the A406, even slowly, rolls the tyre on its wall and can end its chances of a patch. A space-saver is a short-hop, low-speed spare, not something for the M11, so leave the car where it is.
