A screw found in the tread after midnight at Cherwell Valley, or a slow leak discovered late in Kettering, can usually be fixed before dawn, leaving the car fit for the school run with its original tyre still on.
Out of hours, many A43 punctures are small but badly timed. A driver coming off the M40 late at Ardley hears a tick from a screw in the tread; a Northampton night worker finds the rear tyre soft outside Moulton Park as the night shift ends; a Brackley household notices the warning light at 11 pm with a school run at 8. The tyre does not need replacing, just repairing properly, and the question is whether that can happen before daylight.
It can, if the hole qualifies. Out comes the fitter after dark, off comes the tyre, and the liner is checked; a single crown puncture no bigger than 6 mm, clear of both tread edges, is sealed with a BS AU 159 patch-plug and the Kettering or Ardley wheel spun true again. Kettering after midnight pays the daytime price, named during that first conversation, ahead of the drive out of London. Should the tyre prove unrepairable, you are told before work begins and can choose a replacement.

A late repair goes smoothly when the fitter can find you by a name. At the Corby end, Weldon Park, Stanion and Little Oakley make clear reference points, and we cover the NN14 district as well. Park on a lit residential street, tell us the nearest house number, and the damaged tyre is inspected inside and out before any repair is attempted.
Some late A43 punctures cannot be sealed. A flint driven into the shoulder, a sidewall split open, or a liner shredded by running flat from Baynards Green to Cherwell Valley all need a replacement, whatever the clock says. Stop driving on a soft tyre as soon as a safe car park appears. If you will be asleep in Brackley or on shift at Moulton Park, agree access on the call and make sure the car can be reached, not shut behind a locked yard gate.
