Locking Wheel Nut Removal · M6 Toll

Locking wheel nut removed at the roadside
on the M6 Toll.

A locking nut that has seized solid or rounded off can leave you stopped on the M6 Toll with a wheel that simply will not come free. No amount of leaning on a normal socket will move it. We come to you, grip what is left of the nut with a dedicated extraction tool and draw it out without scoring the alloy, then change the tyre before you leave.

Corrosion and over-tightening are the usual reasons a nut rounds off. Once the corners are gone there is nothing for a standard socket to hold, which is why we carry extraction sets built for exactly that. They dig into the damaged nut and back it out steadily rather than cutting or drilling it away.

Move to a safe spot first, away from live lanes, then call and tell us your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker. We give you a price up front, take nothing in advance so you pay only once the nut is out, and where the motorway is running freely we aim to reach you within about 60 minutes.

  • Seized and rounded nuts: extraction sockets grip where a normal one slips
  • No cutting or drilling: the alloy, stud and trim are left intact
  • One roadside visit: nut removed and wheel changed together
  • Clear price: quoted before we set off, nothing to pay up front

About the M6 Toll

The road we cover.

The M6 Toll bypasses the congested M6 through Birmingham, running from the M42 to Cannock across toll junctions T1 to T8. It starts at the M42 near Coleshill, skirts Sutton Coldfield and Brownhills and rejoins the M6 near Cannock. It is a relief route taken when the M6 through Birmingham is blocked, quieter but tolled.

Wherever you've stopped along it, we bring the extraction tools to you and get the wheel off, then sort the tyre in the same visit.

M6 Toll FAQs

Locking Wheel Nut Removal on the M6 Toll, answered.

My locking nut has seized and the key just rounds off. Can it come off on the M6 Toll without ruining the alloy?
In almost every case, yes. A rusted or rounded nut needs a tool that bites into what is left of it rather than a socket that keeps slipping. We carry exactly that, so the nut comes away while the alloy, stud and surrounding trim stay untouched.
The nut is badly corroded. Do you have to drill it out at the roadside?
Drilling is a last resort we work hard to avoid. In the great majority of cases our extraction socket grips the corroded nut and draws it out cleanly, which is far kinder to the wheel and quicker on the motorway. We explain what the nut needs before we start.
How much does roadside locking wheel nut removal cost on the motorway?
We give you a clear price on the phone before we head out, based on your vehicle and what needs doing. There is nothing to pay in advance, you pay the agreed price only once the nut is out, so it is never an extra charge. Removing the nut and finishing the tyre are handled in the one visit.
Where should I stop if the nut fails while I am moving on the M6 Toll?
Get well clear of live traffic as soon as it is safe. Pull into an emergency area or leave at the next junction, switch on your hazards and stand back from the vehicle, away from the M6 Toll. Then call us with your direction of travel and the nearest junction or marker post.
Can you change the tyre once the seized nut is off?
Yes. Freeing the nut is the first step, and with the wheel able to come off we change or refit the tyre straight away. It all happens in the one roadside visit, so you rejoin the motorway without a separate trip to a garage.
