Found the car on a flat outside your house in Greenford or in the Woolgate car park in Witney? Do not drive it. A fitter comes out, traces the cause and makes the repair-or-new-tyre decision at the kerb.
A flat discovered on a parked car has often been building since the last A40 drive. A screw collected on Western Avenue that seeped overnight in Ruislip, a valve that finally gave up in a Headington street, or a slow leak from a rim knocked on a kerb near the Witney roundabouts: none looks dramatic until the tyre is on the ground. Driving it to a garage, even a few hundred yards along Greenford Road, destroys the sidewall.
Keep the car put and send the address or car park name, a photo and the tyre size. Once there, the fitter raises the car, takes off the wheel and hunts for the cause inside and out. If the tread holds a small puncture and the sidewall is unharmed, it is repaired to BS AU 159. If the tyre has been crushed or holed near the edge, a replacement goes on instead, at a price agreed beforehand.

With a flat near Loudwater, indicate, ease off and leave the A40 at the next turning rather than stopping on it. Knaves Beech Industrial Estate and Knave's Beech Retail Park, with the site's agreement, are close by, and Flackwell Heath has residential roads. Once parked, hazards on, step out on the kerb side and call us.
Before calling, spend a moment on detective work. Is the nail still in the tread? Is the valve cracked or bent? Is there a kerb scuff along the rim from Greenford Road? Look at the other three tyres too. Then leave the car where it is in Perivale or Greenford, because a flat driven even a short way is ruined. If you have a space-saver, remember it is limited to low speeds and short hops, never Western Avenue.
