The price of a new tyre depends mostly on three things: the size, the brand tier, and the type of tyre. A small city-car tyre costs far less than a large performance or SUV tyre, and a premium brand costs more than budget. Fitting, balancing and disposal are part of the total too.
What drives the price
- Size. Bigger wheels and wider tyres cost more, an 18-inch SUV tyre dwarfs a 15-inch hatchback tyre.
- Brand tier. Budget, mid-range or premium, each step up adds cost and usually performance.
- Type. Run-flats, winter and performance tyres carry premiums.
- Ratings. Higher load and speed ratings and better label grades can cost more.
Don't forget the extras
A fitted price includes mounting, balancing, a new valve and disposal of the old tyre. With mobile fitting, those all come to you, no separate trip or fees beyond the agreed price.
Getting the best value
- Think cost per mile, not just sticker price; premium tyres can last longer.
- Avoid part-worns, low remaining tread can mean worse value.
- Match the tyre to your mileage and car, don't overbuy or underbuy.
- Keep tyres healthy to make them last longer.
