Kerbs here are granite and the roads are old. Bays on Frederick Street and Tenby Street are tight enough that a rim meets stone at walking pace, the setts around Warstone Lane and Key Hill jar a weight loose, and low-profile tyres on the quarter's parked-up cars take the worst of it. Nothing shows in the one-way grid; on the Icknield Street ring road or over the Hockley flyover the steering begins to tremble.
The suspect wheel is unbolted, mounted on the balancer in the van and spun up until the machine points to the heavy side. Correcting weights then go exactly where it indicates, clipped onto a steel rim or tucked out of view inside an alloy. A repeat run proves the fix, and every nut is torqued to the maker's figure. Mention whether the shake reaches the steering or just the seat.
