Trade vans in the Jewellery Quarter live in courtyards and loading gaps, not in garages. Reinforced, load-matched tyres are brought to the gate and fitted where the van sits.
The quarter's vans belong to the trade: jewellers running stock between Vyse Street and the Assay Office, suppliers into workshops on Frederick Street, builders on the converted factories along Tenby Street. Reversing through Georgian gateposts scrapes sidewalls, granite kerbs bite the shoulder, and a van carrying tools and stock is loading each tyre far beyond anything a car would. A courtyard nail found at eight in the morning stops the whole day.
Everything needed is stamped on the sidewall: the size, a C for the commercial build, a load index that on twin-wheel vans appears as a pair of figures, and the speed letter at the end. Read them out or give the registration and we bring a tyre of at least that rating. Fitting, balancing and torquing all happen alongside the van, with pressures set from the door pillar label rather than guessed.

Lifting a van needs firm, flat ground, and a lot of the quarter is not that. A workshop courtyard off Vyse Street or a yard on Great Hampton Street works; the camber on a narrow one-way street or a sett surface does not. Take some weight out of the back if the van is loaded. An electric van is heavier again for its size, so whatever goes on must carry the load index shown on the tyre it replaces.
