Tyre problems around The Crescent tend to begin on the A38. The Great Charles Street Queensway and its tunnels carry traffic across the centre, and debris swept to the edges there works into treads, often only noticed back in the residents' car park. The Ladywood Middleway and Icknield Street bring more of the same from the other direction. Photograph the sidewall, send the building or car park name, and the fitter turns up with a tyre to match.

Private parking attached to the apartments is the best option, as long as the fitter can be let through the gate. Newhall Street car park works for a commuter's car, subject to the operator's rules and any height limit on the van. A legal on-street bay on a quiet road will do for a straightforward swap. Bus stops, loading bays, the Queensway and the tram stop are all off limits.

Calls from The Crescent come mostly from residents of the apartment buildings and from people who work nearby and commute by car. Allocated bays and building car parks are where most cars sit. Commuters leave cars around Newhall Street, walking on to Snow Hill or the Jewellery Quarter, and a flat is found at the end of the day. Stopping on the Queensway, in its tunnels, on Icknield Street or on the ring road is out of the question. Spaces on the streets nearby are limited and often pay-and-display, so the fitter needs a spot where the car can be lifted without obstructing anyone. The whole area is inside the Clean Air Zone, though a car left parked while work is done on it owes nothing.
