This corner of DA8 lives off two things: the railway and the river road. Commuters leave a car near the station in the dark and find a tyre down on the rim twelve hours later. Drivers on the A206 Thames Road collect the debris that heavy traffic sheds, then carry it home without knowing. Both end the same way, with a vehicle parked up and nobody keen to change a wheel in the road. The fitter arrives with the right size already loaded.

The best surface is a driveway, and in these streets plenty of houses have one. A kerb does the job too, and works well if the vehicle stands parallel and clear of a junction mouth. Morrisons has public bays with space to move around a car that is still drivable. The whole district lies inside the ULEZ, a charge aimed at vehicles on the move rather than one propped on a jack.
