This is a working strip rather than a quiet suburb, and the tyre damage reflects it. Thames Road and Burnham Road carry lorries and skip trucks all day, and whatever they shed finds its way into somebody's tread. Cars running to and from the Crayford roads pick up the rest. Because the estates and the houses sit side by side, one call can be a van outside a unit on Acorn Industrial Park and the next a family hatchback on a drive two streets over.

The boundary matters more than usual in this pocket: Barnes Cray is inside Greater London and therefore inside the ULEZ, while Dartford on the far side of the A2000 Perry Street is outside it, which catches out drivers with an older vehicle. None of that touches a car being worked on, because the charge follows movement. Junction 1A of the M25 at Littlebrook is a short hop away, and traffic filtering off it uses these roads. The hard shoulder is never an option, nor a refuge, nor any live lane: the vehicle has to be off the network before anybody touches it.
