Crooked Billet and the Walthamstow Avenue slip lanes shed grit and broken metal that ends up embedded in tread, while tight turns off Chingford Road and Billet Road catch wheels on kerbs. Private off-street parking is the norm on many roads here, and nothing beats it for a surface: flat, quiet, clear of moving traffic. The A406 at Crooked Billet is somewhere to leave, never somewhere to work. Both E4 and E17 lie inside the ULEZ, which charges a stationary vehicle nothing.
