This is a London district that behaves like a village, and tyre trouble follows suit. No numbered A road runs through the middle of it and there is no station, so damage tends to be picked up on the lanes out towards West Hyde, Newyears Green and the Hertfordshire boundary, then discovered at home. A car sitting on a UB9 drive with a flat is the commonest call of all, and the easiest to deal with: the sidewall is read for the size and the tyre travels out to the car.

Drives take most of the work, and out here they are generally long enough to get the van alongside. Farm and yard entrances make good ground where a house has nothing, with the owner asked first. Woodcock Hill Industrial Estate handles vans and anything on a commercial size. What will not do is the lane itself: roads around Hill End and South Harefield are narrow, unlit in places and used by vehicles a good deal wider than a car, so anything on a jack needs to be off them entirely.

UB9 covers Harefield itself and the smaller pieces around it: Hill End and West Harefield to the north, South Harefield below, Woodcock Hill off to one side. Housing is mostly drives and the village keeps nothing public in the way of a car park, so a car that cannot reach home is best moved onto private ground with a word to whoever owns it. Woodcock Hill Industrial Estate has the hard standing and the room for anything larger. The Co-op Food has customer parking, which is what it is for. The thing to know about this district is the boundary: Harefield lies inside Greater London and inside the ULEZ around the clock, while Maple Cross and Batchworth, two miles off, are Hertfordshire and outside it. A parked car having a wheel changed is charged nothing either way.
