A swelling, a slash deep enough to reveal cords, a crack or a flattened patch where the wheel locked all spell the end for that tyre. London's tread law is the national 1.6 mm, yet good tread cannot save a broken wall. Taking that tyre onto the A40 or M4 at speed invites a blowout.
