A car can potter along Baldock Street and the tight lanes to the river for weeks without revealing an unbalanced wheel. Up to speed on the A10 bypass, or heading north-west on the A602 to Stevenage, the vibration arrives. Ware's narrow centre is hard on alloys, so a kerb strike can knock a weight clean off, and the lanes out to Wareside and Hunsdon add potholes. A repaired or new tyre that skipped balancing brings on the same symptom.
Kingshill, Musley and the Presdales side are driveway country, which suits balancing well. Up goes the car, off comes the wheel in question, and it is clamped to the balancer kept in the van; the machine turns it and points to the light side, where weights are added until the reading settles. Explain at which speeds the tremor starts and whether the steering wheel in your hands or the cushion beneath you picks it up; the cost is set while you are still on the phone.
Most Ware homes on the hill round Musley and Kingshill, or over towards Presdales and Great Amwell, have drives that suit. A car left in a short-stay High Street bay should be moved to a council car park first.

Alignment is a separate job that we do not offer, and balancing cannot put it right. If a Ware car wanders on the A1170 towards Hoddesdon or scrubs one edge of its front tyres, book an alignment check at a garage. The fitter also looks for a bulging sidewall or a rim bent on a High Street kerb, because either will vibrate however carefully the wheel is weighted, and says so before doing anything.
