When a Cheshunt car shudders along the A10 dual carriageway towards M25 J25, a wheel has usually lost its balance. The balancer comes in the van to your EN7 or EN8 drive.
Cheshunt driving splits into slow and quick. The High Street through Waltham Cross and Turners Hill barely lets a car reach a speed where imbalance shows, but the A10 Great Cambridge Road and the run down to M25 J25 soon bring out a quiver in the steering. Potholes on the Goffs Oak lanes knock weights off, as do the slip-road kerbs at Church Lane and Turnford, and a tyre replaced or repaired without rebalancing leaves the same symptom.
The fitter brings a wheel balancer to your Flamstead End or Rosedale drive. With the car raised, the vibrating wheel is removed and turned on the machine, which marks where it is heavy, and weights are fixed to the rim until the reading is right. Mention on the call if the tremor comes through the steering or the seat, and roughly when it appears; that tells the fitter which axle to start on.
Driveways in Goffs Oak, Rosedale and Flamstead End work well, as does the Brookfield Centre's large car park. Waltham Cross centre is partly pedestrianised, so use a council car park, and never try to stop on the A10 carriageway.

We do not do alignment, and balancing is not a substitute for it. A Cheshunt car that tugs sideways along the A121 towards Waltham Abbey, or wears one edge of the front tyres, needs a garage to check the tracking. A buckled rim from a Goffs Oak pothole or a tyre with a bulge can also shake a car, so the fitter inspects both before balancing and tells you straight if either is the real cause.
