Steering that shivers once you join the A46 bypass and settles again over Clopton Bridge is a wheel wanting balance. The machine rides out to Shottery, Alveston or the Maybird car park.
Town driving hides it. Crawling through Bridge Street and the Bridgefoot gyratory, everything feels normal; out on the A46 towards the Wildmoor roundabout or up the A439 Warwick Road, a hum arrives through the floor and a tremor through the rim. Kerbs on the Bridgefoot roundabout flick weights off, the rutted edge of the A3400 Shipston Road does the rest, and patchy tread wear follows soon after.
The fitter lifts the wheel clear and sets it on the balancer stored in the van, spinning it to find where mass is missing. Weights go on the rim, clipped where the wheel is steel and concealed inside the alloy's barrel, then a further spin settles the figure before everything is torqued back. Say which corner troubles you and where the car is, and the cost is agreed before anyone sets off.
Level bays with space for the van exist at Maybird Shopping Park and at the Bishopton park and ride, and driveways in Shottery, Bridgetown, Tiddington and Alveston work well. Permit streets in Old Town need the bay named. Not on the A46 carriageway.

It is not a cure for everything. A pull towards the verge on the A3400, or a steering wheel sitting off-square on a straight stretch, is alignment, which wants a workshop and is not on our list. Shaking that comes only with the brakes on is a disc question. Balance belongs with fresh tyres, with an internal repair, with a weight that has gone, and with a speed-linked shiver.
