A steering wheel that trembles once you are clear of Moseley village and heading down the A435 usually points to an unbalanced wheel. The balancing machine travels on our van to your B13 drive.
Moseley itself is slow going, so balance faults tend to reveal themselves on the way out: past the Maypole on the A435 towards M42 J3, or along the Stratford Road beyond Wake Green. Feel it in your hands and a front wheel is the likely suspect; feel it through the seat and look to the back. Moseley's own contributors are the tall avenue kerbs, which can knock a clip-on weight clean off an alloy, and speed humps taken with a tyre already running soft.
With the car raised on your drive, one wheel comes off and is clamped to the balancing machine inside our van. A spin tells the fitter which part of the rim is heavy, and small weights are stuck to the inner face of the alloy, hidden from view. Each wheel is refitted and torqued in turn. Balancing is not alignment, which we do not do; a car pulling to one side needs a garage with an alignment rig.
Level drives on Salisbury Road, Chantry Road and around Wake Green are ideal, and the wide streets near Swanshurst Park work too. The St Mary's Row loop and the narrow lanes by Moseley Bog are no place to take a wheel off.

Balancing makes sense whenever a tyre comes off the rim. New tyres fitted on a Chantry Road drive are balanced as part of the job, and a puncture repaired to BS AU 159 is worth rebalancing too, because the tyre has been demounted. Outside those, ring if a weight has vanished after a kerb knock near St Mary's Row, or if the tread has started to wear in patchy scallops. Say which wheel you suspect and when the shake begins; the price is confirmed on the call.
