An unbalanced Knowle wheel tends to announce itself on the A41 bypass or the M42 from junction 5. The balancer is brought to your drive, whether in Dorridge, Bentley Heath or Copt Heath.
Along Knowle High Street and Station Road to Dorridge, speeds are too low to reveal much. Things change on the A41 Solihull bypass past M42t Heath and Widney Manor, or on the M42 via junction 5 or Monkspath at junction 4. A shimmy through the steering wheel then usually traces to a front wheel, a rumble under the seat to a rear one, and left alone it wears the tread unevenly.
Station Road's tight corners between Knowle and Dorridge catch plenty of alloys, and a scrape there can dislodge a weight. Lanes towards Lapworth and Balsall Common add potholes. Driveways across Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath are easiest, then the Dorridge station car park. On the lanes towards Lapworth a gateway or wide verge can work, but never a single-track lane or the M42.

On a Dorridge or Bentley Heath driveway, the fitter jacks the car and mounts the first wheel on the van's built-in balancer. The spin gives a reading of how much weight is missing and where; adhesive weights are hidden behind alloy spokes, and a second spin checks the result. Wheels are refitted and torqued.
