Tyre trouble in Kentish Town?

A fitter at your car
in Kentish Town.

A busy through route does the damage and a quiet side street reveals it. Camden High Street and Kentish Town Road carry buses, cabs and delivery vans over raised bus stop kerbs from morning until late, and the tyre that clipped one holds pressure just long enough to get parked. Castlehaven Road, Hawley Road and the turnings off Royal College Street are where it is found the next morning. The size is stamped on the sidewall; pass it on with the postcode and the tyre comes out loaded.

What we do in Kentish Town

Tyre work in Kentish Town.

Tyres are fitted at the kerb, ordered by the size, load index and speed letter the vehicle already runs, and whatever comes off is removed from site. A tread puncture is not plugged from the outside here: the wheel comes off, the tyre is dismounted, the casing inspected, then a patch plug conforming to BS AU 159 if the hole lies within the area that standard covers. A shredded tyre is swapped and the rim checked for damage. Locking nuts come away with the alloy finish untouched, and balancing is done on the van.

Repairs follow BS AU 159; the legal minimum tread is 1.6mm (GOV.UK).

Kentish Town is part of our mobile tyre fitting across Camden, run from the one base at Brent Cross.

Where we work in Kentish Town

Drives, bays and car parks.

A residents' bay on a side turning is the normal answer, the car set straight to the kerb with enough road side width for the fitter to swing the wheel clear. A private forecourt, or a lock up behind the terrace, beats it outright. The Morrisons bays on the main road are timed customer parking and closely watched, so they suit an arranged visit rather than a long wait. An arch or a yard off the back streets is fine if the tenant is expecting the van. Stopping on the A400 or the A502 is not an option.

The cover takes in the terraces and conversions between Kentish Town Road and Royal College Street, the flats along Camden Street, and the streets running west towards Chalk Farm and Steele's Village. Off street parking barely exists, so the bay the car occupies is the workshop. Camden High Street carries red route restrictions, and Kentish Town Road takes far too much traffic for kerbside work, which leaves the turnings either side, and they are what the fitter asks for. Curnock Estate Car Park and the parking behind other blocks belong to their estates, not to passing drivers, so use one only if it is yours to use. Mention market day or a loading ban, since the van has to stand alongside your car until the job is finished.

We fit tyres in Primrose Hill and Camden Town as well, from the same base and on the same phone line as Kentish Town.

Nights and weekends

24 hours in Kentish Town.

The small hours can bring trouble for somebody back late through Camden who finds a flat at the end of the street, or a driver loading before dawn on the back roads. Someone is reachable at whatever point in the night, the fitment is read back to you, and both the attendance and the tyre are priced there and then.

Kentish Town FAQs

Questions from Kentish Town.

Camden High Street is a red route. Can the fitter still reach me?
Not on the red route itself, where stopping is restricted and a raised car would obstruct the buses. Turn into Hawley Road, Castlehaven Road or one of the residential turnings off Kentish Town Road, and the van pulls in beside you there.
Is the estate car park behind my block usable for this?
Only where you already have the right to park in it. Places like Curnock Estate Car Park are managed for their residents rather than open to callers, and permission comes from the estate office. Where you do hold a space, it is a good surface to work on.
Is a run-flat something you can replace at a NW5 kerb?
A run-flat goes on in exactly the same size and load rating the car carries now, fitted and balanced beside the bay like any other tyre. Give the whole sidewall marking over the phone and the correct one travels out first time.
My car is close to Kentish Town West but I am not at it yet. What do you need?
The street the car is actually parked on, the nearest number, and whether the tyre is down completely or holding a little air. The fitter needs to know if the space is tight, because the van stands alongside for the whole job.
