Most tyres here fail somewhere else and are discovered at home. Kentish Town Road and Dartmouth Park Hill funnel traffic on and off the A400 all day, drain covers and raised kerbs take their toll on the turn, and the pressure warning lights up two days later outside the block. Nobody needs to nurse it anywhere. Quote the size moulded into the sidewall, name the road the car sits on, mention whether any air is left in it, and the van is loaded accordingly.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Start with a residents' bay, since that is what NW5 mostly offers. Level, kerbed, parked cars either side to slow whatever passes, and room for the fitter to work from the footway. A yard at the Bush Industrial Estate suits a van or a works vehicle, so long as whoever holds the gate knows somebody is coming in. Aldi and the smaller shops nearby offer short stay bays under watch, which answer for a booked job rather than an open wait. Main road kerbs are not usable.

The pattern of calls follows the housing. Blocks and low rise estates around the station and towards Maitland Park account for a good share, terraces off Fortess Road and the A5200 Brecknock Road for most of the rest, with a few from the higher ground towards Dartmouth Park. Parking is controlled right across this corner of Camden, so the car is nearly always in a residents' bay rather than on a drive, and that is a perfectly good place for the work. What the fitter avoids is the busy length of Kentish Town Road, the A400 climb of Dartmouth Park Hill, and any bay under a suspension notice for works. Say if a skip or a delivery lorry is blocking the width, because the van has to pull in beside the car.
