Two things put tyres out of action around here. One is the kerb. The roads climbing out of HA2 towards Roxeth Hill and Sudbury Hill are narrow, tightly parked and steep enough that a wheel gets shoved against the edge at an angle, and that damage lands in the sidewall where no repair is permitted. The other is ordinary grit off the A312, which grinds into the tread and shows itself as a slow deflation later in the week.

The front drive first, always. Then a residential street, ideally one lined with parked cars, because that alone slows whatever is coming past and buys the fitter a car's width of shelter. Vaughan Road Car Park is public, level and roomy enough to open a boot and set a wheel down, which makes it the obvious rendezvous for a car that will still roll. Parking at South Harrow station belongs to the railway. Pub forecourts around here are private land and stay off the list unless their owner says otherwise.

Calls come off the grid between West Harrow station and the A404 Junction Road, from the addresses along Lowlands Road and Tyburn Lane, and from the run of HA2 dropping down the A312 Northolt Road towards South Harrow. Most of these houses own a drive or a paved frontage. Where they do not, the street does the job, given a car sitting straight to the kerb and room enough to slide a jack underneath without anybody standing in the road. Controlled bays near West Harrow and Harrow-on-the-Hill mean saying how the car is parked and how long is left. Roxeth Hill and Sudbury Hill are the two places a wheel stays on: the gradient is against you, and a jacked car on a slope is a bad idea anywhere.
