Much of the tyre damage in Greet belongs to the trade. Vans and pickups shuttle between the Small Heath Trading Estate, the Tyseley Industrial Estate and Cole Valley Business Park, and swarf, offcuts and loose fixings end up in the tread. The A41 and the B4145 Golden Hillock Road carry that traffic past the terraces, so private cars collect the same screws. Mention yard or street, read out the size, and the tyre that matches goes in the van first.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Nothing in Greet beats an estate yard: level, off the road and usually with room for the van beside the vehicle. Ask the site owner or unit manager first so the gate is open. Outside a house, a drive wins if the property has one; if not, a side street with the car tucked square against the kerb. Shakespeare Street Car Park is public, and workable for anyone able to drive the car round to it. The Warwick Road and the Stratford Road are not usable at all, and neither are yellow lines on a busy corner.

Callers split into two groups. Some are firms on the estates either side of the Warwick Road, Weston Works and the Klaxon Industrial Estate among them, whose van is stuck on its bay inside the gate. The rest live in the terraced streets around Baker Street and St Johns Road, where cars are parked nose to tail and the fitter sets down a few doors along. The Warwick Road itself carries buses and heavy traffic all day, so nobody works at its kerb; a turning off it is the answer. The A34 Stratford Road, the Sparkhill shopping stretch a little way off, has the same problem as a red route. Small Heath and Tyseley stations are both within reach for anyone commuting. Greet is a long way outside the Middleway, and the Clean Air Zone charge never reaches B11.
