A flat on Belmont Rise (A217) or Sutton Lane (B2218) near Belmont is best dealt with by pulling into a side road, not continuing to the next junction. Belmont station and Banstead station are useful landmarks, and so is Carshalton Beeches station further east. Switch the hazards on, stand on the pavement side, then send a picture of the deflated wheel and the name of the road you are parked in.
When a car is found flat in Hackbridge, glance at the other three tyres as well. Then run your eye along the tread for a nail head, test the valve for cracks, and the sidewall for a kerb scuff. Resist driving it to a garage on the A232; the rim chews the tyre apart. A space-saver, where fitted, is a temporary wheel with a lower speed limit printed on it and needs a safe, level spot away from traffic. Otherwise let it sit on the drive or at Wallington station.
