A nail found at 11pm in Tring need not mean buying a tyre. Out-of-hours repair seals it from inside on your New Mill drive, so the car is usable again by morning.
A slow puncture tends to show itself late. The pressure warning flashes on the drive home along the Icknield Way, or the car settles low outside a house in Puttenham or Gubblecote after dark. A late puncture out towards Bovingdon Green, Hogpits Bottom or Flaunden usually means a country lane, so move the car into a gateway or the middle of the village where it can be seen.
