W14 is a thin strip of streets caught between two big roads, and the tyres show it. The A4 at ground level throws up debris on the approach to the Hammersmith Flyover, and Warwick Road on the A3220 grinds north and south all day with buses and coaches. Most cars only travel a short distance before the flat is noticed, which usually means a resident bay outside a mansion block. Give the street, the block name if it has one, and the markings from the sidewall.

The bay outside the block is the normal answer, and there is usually room to get a jack in if the car ahead has not crept forward. Estate parking behind the mansion blocks works too, with the managing agent's nod. The car parks attached to Olympia are tied to events and are not a general option, and the same goes for a supermarket bay held for the length of a job. Off the list completely: Talgarth Road, West Cromwell Road and any bay with a suspension notice on it.

Almost nobody in W14 has off-street parking, so the working surface is a controlled bay nine times out of ten, which does the job provided the permit or the phone session is live and the car sits inside the markings. The streets between Talgarth Road and the railway are where most calls originate, along with the blocks either side of Warwick Road and the turnings towards Barons Court. What is closed off is the A4 in both directions, which is red route through here, and Warwick Road itself for the same reason. Around Kensington (Olympia) the parking rules tighten when an event is on, so it is worth saying whether one is running. ULEZ applies to every street here, at any hour, and never to a parked car.
