Most of what goes wrong here is collected within half a mile of the front door. Argyle Road and Drayton Green Road carry the B452 between rows of parked cars, and a wheel squeezed past an oncoming van clips the kerb hard enough to mark a sidewall. The Uxbridge Road supplies the other kind: something small and sharp lodges in the tread and works away at it for days before the warning light catches up. By the time anybody rings, the car is usually back outside the house, which is where the wheel comes off.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Drives are common enough on the avenues here that most jobs finish on one, and the car need not move. Without a drive, a permit bay will do, so long as you are entitled to be in it and the car sits square to the kerb rather than on a bend, since the fitter has to kneel on the traffic side. Witham Road car park is the option for anything that will still drive a short distance. The Lidl and the Waitrose keep customer bays, but both are busy and time limited, so treat either as a place to meet.

Callers fall into three bands. North of the railway, the streets around Drayton Green and Castle Bar Park are largely houses with drives, which makes them the simplest addresses on the round. In the middle, the terraces either side of Northfield Avenue run on controlled parking, and the bay the car occupies has to be one you are entitled to, with clearance alongside it for the van. South again, Boston Road takes the A4001 down past the Great Western Industrial Park, and those calls are working vehicles. The Broadway itself is no use to anybody: bus lanes, loading bays and traffic at a crawl. W13 is ULEZ ground around the clock, but the charge follows a vehicle that moves, not one propped on a jack.
