This is the far edge of the patch and the roads show it. The A20 runs east past New Eltham towards Sidcup, and the debris it throws off finds its way onto Footscray Road and Green Lane. Most people only notice days afterwards, when the pressure light comes on outside the house. None of that needs a workshop visit. Read the sidewall size out along with the SE9 postcode, and the tyre is picked out at Brent Cross before anybody sets off.

Drives, bays and car parks.

A driveway, first and always, since it puts the car off the public road on ground that is generally level. Failing that, a residential street off Green Lane or Avery Hill Road, with space behind for the van. Halfway Street and Footscray Road themselves carry more traffic, so a turning off either beats the road itself. No public car park exists in New Eltham to use as a rendezvous, and station parking would need the train operator to agree to it.

The calls cluster around the station and the roads off Footscray Road, then spread out to Green Lane, Halfway Street and Avery Hill Road, and across towards Longlands, Coldharbour and the Blackfen side. A good number of addresses here have off-street parking, which is the easiest possible arrangement for a mobile fitter. Where a street has none, it is usually wide enough to work at the kerb without blocking anybody. Two places are not on: the A20 in either form, Sidcup Road or the Sidcup By-pass, where no one may stand beside a jacked car. Come off and stop on a residential road instead. The ULEZ reaches out here as it does across the capital, and it never applies to a car that is sitting still.
