Kidbrooke has two kinds of parking and both produce their own tyre trouble. The blocks at Kidbrooke Village keep cars in undercrofts and allocated bays, where a slow puncture sits unnoticed for a week because nothing is driven far. The older streets off Kidbrooke Park Road and Rochester Way have kerbs, speed humps and a lot of parallel parking, which is where alloys and sidewalls take their knocks. Either way the car is standing still by the time anybody rings, and that makes it straightforward to deal with.

Drives, bays and car parks.

An allocated bay in one of the Kidbrooke Village blocks is workable once whoever manages the car park knows a fitter is coming in, and the first thing to mention is the height barrier. A driveway or a hardstanding on the older streets is better still, since there is nothing overhead and nobody queueing behind. An unrestricted kerbside bay on a quiet turning is fine too. There is nothing here in the way of public parking, so a supermarket customer bay is not the answer.

Work in this district splits between the new flats around Kidbrooke station and the interwar streets that run towards Well Hall and Blackheath Park. An undercroft or a podium deck is a decent surface as long as the managing agent is content and the headroom is honest, so give the level and the bay number on the call. Street bays in the older part are mostly free of permits, which makes life simpler. What the fitter avoids is the A2 in its cutting, the slip roads at the Sun in the Sands roundabout and the South Circular where it swings round the Well Hall Roundabout: none of those has a safe place to put a jack. The borough is Greenwich, so ULEZ runs here all day and all night, and a parked car with a wheel off it is charged nothing.
